In open center steering systems, pumps with fixed displacement are used. With reaction steering units any external forces acting on the steered wheels result in a corresponding movement of the steering wheel when the driver is not steering the vehicle. With non-reaction steering units there is no corresponding movement of the steering wheel when the driver is not steering the vehicle.
