This is a very small Linear Voltage Regulator useful in space limited applications which do not require a large current capability.  It is also good for low noise applications where the noise generated by a switching regulator might be objectionable.  While the current rating of the regulator chip used on the board is rated for 1.5 amps, due to the small size of the board and lack of significant heatsinking, it is unrealistic to expect to be able to operate at that maximum current level for all but a very brief time. The board was designed for small space limited, low current applications, not for large current capability. Thus, it is much more realistic to expect around 400ma to 500ma (0.4 to 0.5 amps) of continuous current. As with everything, it will need to be tested with the specific application's load to see how much heat is being generated by the board. Note that if there is airflow across the board to provide some cooling, then the current you will be able to draw from it will go up. Note also that the part will automatically shutdown if it gets too hot (it will go into a thermal overload condition) and your application will simply lose power. After the part cools down a bit, it will again turn on and this cycling will continue. So, the regulator should be able to survive such overcurrents. However, if this were to occur in, say, a model airplane, you would lose control for the time it took to recover and might cause a crash. Thus, for critical applications that cannot tolerate any power dropouts, make sure the current requirements are not going to be anywhere near that point. Again, adequate testing should be done. If desired, the output voltage of the board can be changed from the default setting of 6.0V to any voltage up to the maximum of the part (around 35V). The Input voltage of the source will need to about 2V higher then the desired output voltage. The R1 and R2 resistors on the board control the output voltage (these are small 0805 1/10watt 1% surface mount resistors) according to the formula: Vout = 1.25*(1 + R2/R1). Since this is a Linear Regulator, the voltage difference between the input and the output must be dropped across the regulator and that voltage difference times the current that is being used determines the power that is being consumed by the regulator itself. Thus, as the input voltage gets much bigger than the output voltage -and- the desired current also increases, the power consumed by the regulator itself will become large and it will start to get hot very quickly. Again, testing should be done to verify that the part will be able to supply the required voltage and current for the specific application. This is a very small (1.125" x 0.60" x 0.20") accurate reliable Linear Voltage Regulator which will perform well for applications which require a small footprint board with low to medium current requirements up to about 0.5A unless additional cooling is supplied, either via airflow or a makeshift heatsink soldered to the external tab on the regulator.  A brief hookup wiring diagram (see last photo) is also included.  Please contact me if multiple quantities are needed.
