Black & Red Banana Plugs If you have worn out plugs on your test leads and sometimes have to jiggle them around for them to make good contact, then consider replacing them. I clean the plugs with alcohol or contact cleaner. Sometimes the worn out part is the female plug on the meter. Cleaning helps, but they too should be replaced to get accurate readings. These plugs are great! They don't need soldering and you should use only stranded copper wire. If you solder the stranded end, you will be compromising the contact between the plug and the wire. The wire is kept clean inside the plug and always will make contact as a stranded wire. If it should break, simply strip the lead back, insert and your back in business. No soldering involved.
