 I purchased this just in case. I mounted it once but it never got used so its in perfect shape. I just havent had the need to hold more than 1 part in a vise at the time.  I purchased this unit because it uses mechanical internals rather than hydraulics to allow the jaws to self compensate. The hydraulic ones end up needing quite a bit of maintenance over the years to keep them going and refill, but this type is a much more clever design that eliminates the need for hydraulic oil refills. You can find more info at solidmax.org for this jaw.  Cost (new) is $600. SM Workholding, has developed and patent vise jaws called SolidMax™ Workholding System, a modular solution for multi-part workholding.  The SolidMax™ Workholding System, will grip and hold multiple parts with 1/16" variations in size at the same time. The SolidMax™ mounts easily in seconds to just about every type of milling vise out there including KURT®, CHICK®, and others with no modification.  All units come with pre-tapped plungers for tooling accessories and are hardened and ground for superior precision.  All parts are griped and held with the same force even fragile parts can be held securely, without crushing pressure.  Part movement is eliminated. In addition, broken cutters, damaged parts, and dedicated or custom built fixtures are eliminated as well.
