Real Soluble Glutinous Rice Starch - SGRS Beyond a doubt, this product has been the hardest one I've ever tried to find a source for. Over a period of several months, I tried countless samples of rice starch from many suppliers and was beginning to think the real thing couldn't be found. This is not rice flour or Mizinko that you get elsewhere, this is honest to goodness, 100% SGRS. SGRS is considered a superior binder and was first mentioned in Shimizu's book, Fireworks: The Art, Science, and Technique. Since then, the process has been refined and the commercially produced SGRS available now dries even harder. The great advantage of using SGRS in a rolled star system over dextrin is in the "water resistant" nature of a dried SGRS star core. Add to that, the "water-proofing" prevents leaching of water soluble salts from successive layers when dry.
