Here is a very nice set of precision tools, a Starrett No. 657A magnetic base and a Starrett No. 196 dial indicator. This Starrett dial indicator is a No. 196, I think. There is no numbers indicating what model it is, but it looks just like an older No.196. This indicator has been used and probably abused over the years but it is works like it should. The dials spins easily and the numbers are still readable although the lens has some scuffs and scratches. This indicator moves easily, no hesitations, smooth, and always returns to "0". The previous owners has put their autograph on it but please don't let that detract from a nice vintage indicator that has passed the test of time. The magnetic base turns "on" and "off" easily and "sticks" solidly to any flat steel surface. It is great for getting into those tight places those larger mag bases just won't fix. The fine adjustment knob helps make setting this indicator up a breeze. There are very few imperfections on any of this magnetic base, its in very good shape.
