This tapered lens appears to be either a collimating or beam expanding lens for precision illumination during the the photolithographic process in wafer processing. The o'ring groove on the large end is a little over 8". The lens itself is tapered from about 8" to about 4" and is about 9" long. It is slightly convex on the large end and flat on the small end. The large end lens set back into the Stainless approximately 1". It appears to be one piece of glass except for a thin additional element on the small end. The lens is mounted in a heavy stainless steel frame that was likely used in a high vacuum environmnent. It is flat on one side and has heavy brackets for mounting. The entire unit weights roughly 45 lbs. The lens' surfaces are in excellent condition. The green colored band that you can see inside the lens is the area where is it glued or attached to the stainless frame. The black circles correspond to set screws on the outside. This is made from the very best quality optical materials and with this size and thickness may have many applications outside of the semiconductor industry such as telescope lens making.
