Recessed mounting option Product Overview The LaserSCANNER detector (Model VLS-series) is similar to the standard LaserPLUS detector, though each LaserSCANNER detector also includes the following elements: ? a valve mechanism in the inlet manifold ? software to control the airflow from the four (4) VESDA sectors (pipes) The software configuration enables one (1) VESDA zone to be divided into four (4) separate sectors: distinguishing between separate voids within a room is an ideal example of this arrangement. Operation Each LaserSCANNER device draws air from all sectors in use. If the smoke level reaches the Adaptive Scan Threshold (AST), the LaserSCANNER quickly scans each pipe to identify which pipe is carrying smoke. If more than one (1) pipe is transporting smoke, the sector with the highest smoke concentration is designated as the First Alarm Sector (FAS). Once Fast Scan is completed and the FAS identified, the LaserSCANNER continues to closely monitor all four (4) sectors (pipes) to monitor fire growth and maintain full protection of the area. There are four (4) Alarm levels: Alert, Action, Fire 1 and Fire 2 for each sector (pipe), and the sensitivity for each level can be set to ensure optimum alarm thresholds are applied for each sector. LaserSCANNER Display The LaserSCANNER display has a bar graph to indicate the overall smoke level, alarm thresholds and fault indication. The bar graph displays the individual-sector smoke levels during the scanning sequence. There is an extra light-emitting diode (LED) to indicate that a ‘FAS’ has been identified, as well as an extra function to the Silence button, which allows for a manual scan to be initiated. The LaserSCANNER display module can be mounted into the LaserSCANNER front cover or remotely into a 19-inch (48.3 cm) sub rack or a remote box. Relay Options The LaserSCANNER detector can be fitted with a programmable seven or 12-relay termination card. Relays may be mounted in a remote box or in a 19- inch (48.3 cm) sub rack. VESDAnet ? The status of the detector, as well as all Alarm, service and Fault events, are transmitted to displays and external systems via VESDAnet: VESDA’s fault-tolerant communications protocol. The VESDAnet loop, which provides a robust, bi- directional communication network between devices, also allows continued operation during single-point wiring failures. The VESDAnet loop also provides system programming from a single location, and forms the basis of the modular nature of the VESDA system. AutoLearn ? LaserSCANNER technology employs unique software to ensure optimum operation in many environments. AutoLearn monitors the ambient environment, and sets the most appropriate Alarm-threshold commands (Alert, Action, Fire 1 and Fire 2) during the commissioning process. The aforementioned scenario allows monitoring of the earliest possible warning for a potential fire situation without triggering any nuisance alarms. Referencing Environments that employ air-handling systems may be affected by outside pollution entering the controlled environmentwhen“fresh-airmakeup”isadded. However, referencing by VESDA ensures any external pollution does not interfere with the actual, valid smoke level being detected in the protected space. The system can safely compensate for this transient state, allowing for continual operation – free from any nuisance alarms (similarly with AutoLearn).
