Here is a unique gift or educational demo item for IR professionals. Made in the 1950's by Spectrotherm, it is the IR Detector head from one of the first IR Linescan cameras.  It required you to add liquid nitrogen to the detector to cool it down. The spinning mirror and Y axis scanner both move freely. The serial number is 011... it is a very rare. For educators, all the elements of early IR technology can be demonstrated with this unit. It stands 14.75" tall and is precisely manufactures.  It will look great on any scientists desk! From the Web: First thermographic camera The first infrared linescan system was the British Yellow Duckling of the mid 1950s. This used a continuously rotating mirror and detector, with Y axis scanning by the motion of the carrier aircraft. Although unsuccessful in its intended application of submarine tracking by wake detection, it was applied to land-based surveillance and became the foundation of military IR linescan.
