Vintage Military I-177 Tube Tester with  MX-949 A/U Tube Socket Adapter Measures in Micromhos Here is a Military I-177 with the MX-949 socket adaptor. This was made in 1942. It is the direct predessor to the Hickok TV/7 series of testers. This tube tester and adapter do work, but has been on the shelf for years. I tested a few known tubes today. The line adjust works as it should.  It did test 12AX7 tubes accurate while using the adapter. It did not, however, test a couple of known 5U4s and type 26 tubes at all that I know are good. It showed a lot lower readings on known strong 5U4s and it showed no reading on known strong 26 tubes.  This tester will need maintenance and probably some repair, as it has not been in service for decades. It does have a musty odor from being on the shelf for so many years. it includes the charts as shown. This once belonged to the 417th as you can see. Great history.  Please see the 12 photos provided. I was going to keep this as a back up to one of my 3 professionally calibrated TV/7Ds, but how many tube testers do I really need? Any and all tube testers that you buy on ebay, especially from this era,  should be and will need to be calibrated by a qualified person. 95% of all tube testers from this era will need calibrated.
