This is a pair of vintage Willson safety goggles recently acquired at an estate sale.Thomas A. Willson & Co. was founded in 1871 by Giles J. Willson and his son Thomas A. Willson in Reading,Pennsylvania making mainly prescription eyeglasses. In 1929 after switching to producing mainly safety eye wear for industrial use,the company became Willson Goggles,Inc.and then after branching out to produce other types of safety equipment,in 1936 became Willson Products,Inc.Willson promoted their goggles with the slogan " Today! Quit work with two eyes and a smile".These goggles show some wear consistent with age and use.The straps have lost elasticity but the hooks are intact and can be adjusted to fit. There is some paint loss on the metal lens holders. The clear 50mm lenses have minimal wear and offer clear visibility. Two pair of replacement lenses are being included. The clear lenses are scratch free. The dark green lenses do have some pitting but not so bad that they can't be used. The ventilated bakelite rims are stamped UPRR for the Union Pacific Railroad and are in good used condition with no cracks, chips,or deep gouges. The leather nose pieces are intact, still pliable, and not dried out or cracked. They could be a good addition to or start of an industrial or railroad collection or good steampunk, rat rod,or biker wear.Thank you for looking.
