Tripod # 4 of 4 this week. This beautifully finished hardwood tripod is a lighter model used for light weight pocket compasses, small architects and builders levels. The tripod is identified by the special shoes at the ends of the legs.  The shoe is a standard Gurley shoe being a tapering brass ferrule, having an iron end and firmly riveted to wood.  The material is hardwood, finished natural. It is adjustable to any height between 34 and 55 inches.  The head is polished brass with a male 2 15/16” x #12 THDS (2.9365”) and brass bolts and wing (thumb) nuts and a wooden cap. The leg clamps are all working and are made of polished brass.  One of the legs has a chip in the wood, see last 3 photos. The tripod is in good workable condition. This tripod would make a great standing floor lamp if converted.   Weight of Tripod: 9 lbs. Shipping Dimensions: Box 36" L x 6" W x 6"H  REMEMBER, BE INFORMED, ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BID OR BUY. I am a retired Professional Engineer – Land Surveyor having started surveying at the age of ten. I have been collecting survey instruments over the last 30 something years having amassed a collection of 175 transits, levels, compasses along with chains, tapes, 900 plumb bobs, drafting and other survey and engineering items. I research each instrument through the actual manufacturers catalogs, and have some 60, including major early ones. I clean each instrument and make minor repairs to the instrument, boxes and tripods, sometimes sending out to professionals for their repairs. My research includes the following books to name a few: "The makers of Surveying Instruments In America Since 1700" by Charles E. Smart; Antique Surveying Instruments ", by William H Skerritt, "The Complete Guide to Early W. & L.E. Gurley Transits" by Brian Aregood and books by Silivo A. Bendini, Gerald L’E Turner and Milton Denny P.S.; Research by Riccardo Chetoni and Wolfgang Ruecker. I have reached the age of 78 and want to upgrade my collection and am selling off ( my children thank me) most of my collection…..to you. Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool.
