These electrodes have tribal-oxides mixed in to perform similarly to 2% Thoriated tungsten and have a diameter of 1/8" (3.2mm) and a length of 7". One box contains ten 2.0% Tribal-Oxide (Purple) Tungsten electrodes (1/8") and offers free shipping within the U.S. Tungsten alloys have been standardized by the International Organization for Standardization and the American Welding Society for use in GTAW electrodes. WP (GREEN) is a pure tungsten electrode that is low cost but has poor heat resistance and electron emission. WC (GREY) is an alloy containing cerium oxide that improves arc stability and ease of starting while decreasing burn-off. WL (2.0% BLUE, 1.5% GOLD) is an alloy of lanthanum oxide that has a similar effect as cerium, and WT (RED) is an alloy containing thorium oxide that offers excellent arc performance and starting, but is slightly radioactive. Tungsten is a chemical element with the symbol W and atomic number 74. It has the highest melting temperature among pure metals, making it an ideal choice for a non-consumable electrode in GTAW. The electrode can have either a clean or ground finish and a diameter between 0.5 and 6.4 millimeters and a length between 75 and 610 millimeters.
