Picture is representative. All the castings, rods and screws are the same. Your vise may look a little different, but you probably wouldn't notice.. All have been rebuilt, cleaned, oiled and are fully operational. Dimensions are all the same. There may have been a cover that goes over the threaded locking mechanism on the underside of the unit that may be missing. That piece may have never been on a particular vise--I don't know. It also may have been easier to keep debris out of the nut. I do know that it does not affect the operation. The price assumes the unit is missing that piece. Last picture is without cover. I can get one or two into nearly the same size box, so if you want two, Take $20 off AND I can combine the shipping to save you more. Same box/ twice the weight. THAT MEANS COMBINED SHIPPING ON TWO. If you want more, let me know. If you are considering a 7" 8" or a 10", the 10 seems much stronger. I have an 8" in my shop and it broke at the handle/ threaded rod. Many of the 8" were broken in a H.S. class I taught. I have the "Quick Release" 10 inch vises too in my store. They have been cleaned and repainted. It appears that the regular vise can be made into a quick one by changing out the nut. Answer to an inquiry about the cover: I would assume that piece is missing. If the piece were present when the vice were new then that piece would only have been removed over time because it interfered with the operation of the vise. Since all the castings are the same, I bet that they never had covers. It may be that the quick opening model had the cover. The nut is shaped differently. It's been a while since I packaged them, but I remember that the cover would not fit on all of them. The shape of the nut on the regular vise seemed to nearly obstruct the holes for the cover screws. “Paint is not pretty. There is a place for a nut cover on the underside of the vise that may or may not have been in place when the unit was new. A few had a cover, but most of them would not accept a cover like the one I had. The cover does not affect the operation of the unit. Having the cover in place may have caused dust to accumulate so it was discarded. I don't know. I do know that I took them apart. Cleaned them. Oiled them and reassembled them. They work and are in good mechanical condition.”
