Every automatic standby generator requires safety controls to prevent damage to the equipment. A crank limiter prevents the generator from damaging the start mechanism if the engine won't start. Safety shutdowns like over speed and under speed also detect a problem and shut down the generator to prevent damage. The engine control also opens and closes the fuel solenoid to control fuel flow. WINCO offers two control configurations in our air-cooled emergency standby generators. Depending upon the application, each system has its advantages. The four-wire system places all of the critical controls in the ASCO 165 series transfer switch. The generator has no on-board controls to allow it to operate automatically. The two-wire start system adds an engine control board to the generator. The generator senses the closing of a contact and initiates the start sequence. All of the safety shutdowns are controlled by the generator. The WINCO two-wire start system is required for use with many common transfer switches.
