Winford BRKAVH68FV1 VHDCI breakout board 68-pin VHDCI connector Compatible with certain National Instruments DAQ boards Screw terminal for each of the 68 lines, plus shield Solder pad connection space for all 68 lines and shield Supports addition of .1" pin headers Fast and easy connections Perfect for prototyping and permanent installations General Description These breakout boards bring all 68 pins and shield of a 68-pin VHDCI (Very High Density Cable Interconnect) connector out to angled screw terminal blocks for easy connection and prototyping work. In addition to the screw terminal connection, each pin is also brought to solder pads (2 per pin) at 0.1" spacing, allowing the addition of small components or 0.1" headers. Please note that the breakout boards are manufactured with a connection between each connector pin and the corresponding terminal block position; no soldering of any type is necessary. The solder pads simply provide an area for making optional connections to additional headers or other components. The BRKAVH68FV1 breakout board contains a female 68-pin VHDCI connector, which is sometimes referred to as a SCSI-5 connector. This style of connector is used by a number of equipment vendors, including National Instruments™. National Instruments Compatibility National Instruments™ uses this 68-pin VHDCI connector on some of their DAQ cards, making this breakout board a good option for interfacing to these National Instruments products. Note that NI™ actually uses two different styles of 68-pin connectors: the VHDCI, and the half-pitch DSUB (0.050 D-type). The Winford Engineering BRKAVH68FV1-R is directly compatible with NI boards using the VHDCI connector. It can also be used with 0.050 D-type boards by using an appropriate adapter cable. These Winford Engineering break out boards are perfect for experimentation, prototype work, lab projects, and permanent installations. They are well-suited for interfacing with data acquisition equipment, control systems, or any other devices that use the 68-pin VHDCI (Very High Density Cable Interconnect) connector. A breakout board is sometimes referred to as a "transition module", "terminal board", "breakout box", or "interface module". National Instruments does not offer a breakout board / connector block for the 68-pin VHDCI connector. Instead, they offer a 68-pin half-pitch DSUB (0.050 D-type) connector block to support their 68-pin VHDCI DAQ boards; this requires the use of an adapter cable to convert between VHDCI and 0.050 DSUB. A typical combination of NI hardware would be the NI SCB-68A connector block and the SHC68-68-EPM adapter cable, or equivalent. In contrast, the BRKAVH68FV1-R breakout board can connect directly to VHDCI devices by using a standard VHDCI cable. Thus the BRKAVH68FV1-R breakout board is a valid alternative or replacement for the National Instruments SCB-68 or SCB-68A breakout module when interfacing to a VHDCI connector.
