This auction is for three books on setting up a woodworking shop.  Two are from Fine Woodworking and one is from Sterling Publishing. Your quest for a perfect woodworking shop will be greatly aided by these three books which will provide you with countless ideas, along with very helpful photographs,  for solving problems in setting up a woodworking shop, or ideas to make your current shop more productive and fun to be in. 1. The first is Workshop Idea Book authored by Andy Rae and published by Fine Woodworking.  The ISBN is 1-56158-695-1.  This is a hardback book that has been gently read, mostly because its been in the night stand for going-to-bed reading.  This book is mainly photographs of many shops and woodworkers, both amateur and professional.  The narrative descriptions of the photographs, and the small side-bars throughout the book, provide both visual and written inspiration. What was most interesting was not always the subject of the photograph, but to look at the small details in someone’s shop for ideas for my own .. like how smaller items were placed about a shop, or how a safety issue and dust collection methods are incorporated into a functioning shop.  Some of what will be found in this book is counter-intuitive.  In other cases, there are ideas how small is better; in one case saved me several hundred dollars. Andy Rae is a well trained and experienced profession woodworker who has written many article and books.  He gets to the point by his, what could be termed, a “functionally focused” writing style. 2. The second book is The Small Wood Shop and it is a collection of articles from Fine Woodworking.  The ISBN is 1-56158-0691-9.    This is a paperback book that spent most its time in the night stand next to the Workshop Idea Book. This book has lots of detailed in formation about topics that may not at first cross a woodworker’s mind as even existing.  A good way to describe the contents of this book would be: How to get more out of small tools safely.  It gives examples of how to buy, use, modify and repair tools so they will either do more, or how to buy a basket case and change it into a great machine for pennies.  There are several small detailed articles about a shop that will make it more fun and safer to be in. 3. The third book is Setting Up Your Own Woodworking Shop by Bill Stankus and published by Sterling Publishing Company.  The ISBN is 0-8069-8314-0.  This too spent its life in the night stand. This book is full of details, lots of details, on almost every aspect of woodworking.  These are the Chapters: 1. Designing a Space; 2. Power and Lights; 3. Storage; 4. The Workbench; 5. Power Tools; 6. Combination Machines; 7. Dust Collections; 8. Creating a Mobile Workshop; 9. Air Compressors and Air Tools; 10. Spray-Painting Systems; 11. Hand Tools; Sharpening Techniques; 13. Jigs and Fixtures; 14. Safety Procedures.  Plus there are appendices on more items affecting a workshop than can be realized.  Examples are: Lumber Calculator; How Wood is Graded; Electricity Consumption; What Size Wire for a Circuit?; Extension Cords; Appliances Grounding; Wattage for Home Lighting. This is really a road map to construct a plan of action to use after you’ve gotten your inspiration and ideas from the first two books.  The information in this book will be the basis of a comprehensive plan for laying out, stocking with tools, both power and hand, what lumber is and how to buy it, all the way through finishing and safety. Shipping will be via USPS Media Mail which includes a USPS Tracking Number. Pick-up is OK; please bring cash. Payment: Checks from Bank of America, personal or business, are acceptable. The check has to clear before shipping, which will be quickly as the BoA branch is a block away.  Otherwise its PayPal. I like an informed buyer, please ask questions.
