The SN/SPG-400 instrument operates by charging a known length of coaxial cable to high voltage and then discharging this stored energy into a load. Thus, the cable characteristics determine the output characteristics. Approximately 3 nanoseconds of output pulse width are provided per foot of cable; for critical applications, however, the cable length should be adjusted by output pulse width measurement or TDR techniques. For optimum pulse shape a double-shielded, silver-plated coaxial cable is recommended, such as RG-214/U. For 50 Ohm loads, one end of the transmission line must be terminated with a Reynolds series 521 of connector, while the other end is left open-circuited. For 25 Ohm loads, both ends of the transmission line must be terminated with Reynolds series 521 connectors. Features Fast risetime Greater than 2.4 MW peak power Extremely stable pulse width due to use of fixed transmission lines Flashing high voltage warning light Polarity switchable Single shot or continuous pulsing Front panel or remote trigger The controls and indicators of the SN/SPG-400 are designed to provide maximum flexibility of use and ease of operation. A high voltage interlock plus a flashing high voltage warning indicator are used to provide maximum operator safety. In addition, all high voltage cables that protrude through the rear panel are not charged until just prior to firing the pulser.
