NO RESERVE CONSTANT SPEED & TORQUE 110 Vac governed small machine drive motor This motor was designed and manufactured by Burroughs as the drive motor for their “J” line of desktop adding machines. The speed is controlled by an adjustable centrifugal-force activated governor consisting of points that open and close as required to maintain performance. Electronics accompany the unit to prevent arcing of the points thus prolonging their life. The ability to maintain speed and torque constant was a requirement of the equipment driven by this motor. All kinds of gears, wheels, ratchets, cams, bails, levers, and so on had to co-function perfectly to assure the action and accuracy of the mathematical device. The motor had to overcome heavy resistance from springs at one part of the cycle, while maintaining a smooth transition to the next lesser load part of the action. An incredible accomplishment in it's day – 1960-ish. The best part is what you can do with this motor and your modern equipment. Replace that old Unimat lathe motor with this much stronger one. Connect a small milling machine, or drill press, or polisher, or grinder, or jig-saw, or whatever would benefit by this replacement. All you need is your skills and imagination to do it. 50 years ago this motor cost a week's pay. This has been essentially “in stock” all that time and is just as ready to go to work today as then.
