You will receive 12 eggs plus 3 extra in case of breakage and/or to improve hatch rate. Eggs will weigh 1.8 ounces or more when shipped. Egg weight is extremely important if you want early maturing, large & fertile hens that lay large to extra large eggs. Ask your seller what their eggs weigh. It will take a year or more to recover from a flock of small hens. Most small hens will never lay good size eggs. This listing is for "sex link" hatching eggs, meaning they are bred specifically so that males will have a white spot on their head when they hatch. Females from this cross are egg-laying machines. The hens from my cross will be your top producer of large to extra large dark brown eggs. At 20 - 22 weeks pullets will start to lay. They will lay 275 - 325 eggs each per year. Eggs will have excellent shell quality and texture. I am sure this hardy bird will become one of your favorite flock members. On average you will hatch 50% pullets and 50% cockerels. Also on average you will hatch 50% blue chicks and 50% black chicks. Cockerel chicks will be blue or black with a white spot on top of their head. Pullet chicks will be solid blue or black. Some chicks will have feathered legs. This cross is also known in the industry as: Sapphire Gem, Blue Rock, Production Blue or Blue Star. These sexlink hens have excellent feed conversion. They are easy to manage with a calm disposition. They will mature quicker than other 'non-hybrid' breeds. These hens will not go broody. I have 12 barred rock hens with 2 blue birchen marans roosters. This cross produces sexlink chicks. There is plenty of hybrid vigor in this cross, which means your birds will be disease resistant. They will also be heat and cold tolerant. I replace my hens before they are 2.5 years old. Young hens have superior fertility. Young hens & good hen to rooster ratio = excellent fertility and hatch rate. Other variables are uncontrollable. Mature hens will weigh 4 - 6 pounds. Mature Roosters will weigh 7 - 9 pounds. Your eggs will be 1-3 days old when shipped. My eggs are stored in a dedicated refrigerator set at 55-60 degrees with a maintained humidity of 70 percent. Texas A&M has a publication with these recommended settings for hatching egg storage. This will largely increase hatch rates. I turn my stored eggs by hand at least twice daily.
