We have one dozen blue copper/black copper Marans hatching eggs for your consideration from Terrapin Station Ranch. Our Marans are French Standard (feathered shanks and outer toes). The eggs pictured are from our birds that are currently laying. Marans are large, vigorous birds. They are very capable flyers and foragers. The roosters will protect their hens. They make an excellent free range choice but will also thrive in an aviary environment. They are a superb choice for a dual purpose (meat and eggs) breed. They lay extra large eggs and dress out at a good weight for the dinner table. As you can see, our ladies are laying between a 6 and 7 right now. It is late in the year, and their egg color has grown a bit lighter since the beginning of the spring. This is normal and is to be expected. All of our hatching eggs are stored in a 60 degree, electronically controlled chilling unit. They are collected for 3 days prior to shipping. We check fertility weekly to ensure that you will receive fresh, fertile eggs. Please be aware that we cannot be responsible for handling by the Postal Service or the individual handling and incubation practices of buyers. We use USPS Priority Mail. This provides the buyer with tracking information as the package makes its way to its destination. Buying shipped hatching eggs is a risk, and there will be a certain percentage of loss (non hatching) when incubating shipped eggs. Thank you for your interest.
