The Ameraucana is a breed of chicken thought to have been developed in the United States, though it is not clear exactly where they were developed. They are similar to Araucana chickens because both have pea combs and lay blue shelled eggs, but they are completely different breeds. Ameraucana traits include full tails, muffs, beards, and slate or black legs depending on the variety. The mature cock averages 6.5 pounds, while the hen averages around 5.5 pounds. They are excellent layers of light blue, medium sized eggs. Our Blue Wheaten Ameraucana flock consists of large, Wheaten Ameraucana roosters covering Wheaten and Blue Wheaten Ameraucana hens. This pairing will give Wheaten and Blue Wheaten chicks. Pros: Hens lay beautiful, blue eggs. Economical eaters Fun, athletic and adventurous. Cons: Can be flighty, high strung. Blue egg hue can diminish during the laying cycle. (Once hen takes a laying break, the blue color will increase.) Ameraucanas are prone to cannibalism and feather eating if kept in close confinement. Eggs are wrapped individually and shipped 'fat end up' to help keep the air cell stable during transit. Eggs are shipped Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and will be processed in the order they were received. Specific ship date requests should be placed in your order notes and will be honored as the hens allow. If there is a day that you DO NOT want your eggs shipped, please include that information in the order notes as well. We request all hatching eggs be picked up at your local post office to reduce shipping trauma. PLEASE supply a phone number if you want your eggs addressed in this manner. All eggs are shipped USPS Priority Mail and typically arrive 2 to 3 days after shipping. Please understand that even though we might address a box "HOLD AT POST OFFICE", it might still be delivered to your door. This is out of our control. We ship the freshest eggs possible and package in a manner that will limit the chance of breakage or damage. We do not guarantee hatch rates due to factors that are out of our control such as rough handling, incubator error, etc.
