This auction is for one 6-Hole Chicken Nesting Box. Each nest compartment is 12" X 12". It is best for most breeds of chickens. This is our #1 Selling Unit!!! For Bantam & Serma use 9" boxes. For dual purpose, heavy hens, use the 14" boxes. If you aren't sure, email me with breed(s). Metal vs. Wood: Metal boxes are lighter, less weight on the wall, easier to handle. Metal is easier to clean / sanitize. Chickens poop. They poop everywhere and on everything. With metal, you scrape it, wash it off with sanitizer and it's like new. Wood absorbs the bacteria, harbors it, breeds it and well... Then there are the mites. They prefer wood! My metal boxes have removeable bottoms. You pop them up, dump them out and put new bedding in them. DONE! Ventilation is important also. These metal boxes are open front and back. Even if hung on a wall, there is better ventilation than if it has a fixed back on it. Temperature... If you let a metal box sit in the sun, it will be hot. But chickens like it dark where they lay their eggs... and we don't want them cooked?! (yet). Please don't put ANY nesting box in the sun. It should also be up off the ground. Keep preditors out! As for cold, I live in WI and it gets below zero every winter. I find my chickens cuddeling up IN the metal boxes. They aren't any colder than the wood and I have never seen any chickens with their tounge stuck on the metal! My coop is not insulated and I have all I can do to keep the water thawed! Visit my eBay Store! FOR CLOSE-UP PICTURES OF THESE BOXES. Chicken Nesting Boxes Category: top of page The top (roof) is slanted away from the wall to discourage roosting on top of the hutch. It is hand made out of 26 gauge Galvanized metal. The box is pop riveted together. The bottom pans pop out for cleaning. I do not have rollout bottoms. There is minimal assembly required. Due to prior problems with shipping, we have to ship the units with the arms and roosting bars unattached. Attaching requires one phillips (+) screwdriver. Other than that, set the replaceable pans in each nest and attach it to the wall - but that's a given! There are metal brackets attached to the top for hanging it. There are 2 fold-down roosting bars, one at each level. The bars are solid pine to be screwed on to the arms. Screws and predrilled holes included. Please email me with any questions before you bid. “(1) I make each nesting boxes as purchased. I have several sizes & dimensions. It would take a warehouse to contain an inventory. I am a small time builder, working in an old chicken coop. It can take up to a week for me to build and wrap your box. Then UPS takes 3-5 days. It can take up to 2 weeks for your purchase to get to you. (2) The prices are set by UPS. I don’t have control over them. I enter the physical & dimensional weight when I create each listing. Shipping is calculated by the system on that information & your zip code. I sell a large item!”
