This is our 4x4 CNC plasma and mill with rapids over 500 ipm. The reason we can say plasma as well as mill, is that we use 25mm rail and carriage bearings, not skate or groove bearings, which are held in place with spring on the stepper. We’ve used 15mm wide rack and pinion out of harden steel, and while others may use plastic or narrow gear racks, that can’t hold the stress needed to do the milling, our unit uses 15mm rack with 20 tooth pinion, so it has plenty of speed for plasma.
