This issue is 16 pages including the covers measuring about 16.25" x 11.25". This issue is noteworthy since it contains a featured article on the Brunswick Tannery operated by the Hoyt Brothers at Morris, Pennsylvania illustrated with a montage of front cover engravings and additional engravings on one of the pages inside. This article is titled The Manufacture Of Hemlock Shoe Leather - Brunswick Tannery Of Hoyt Brothers New York. This article is one in the "American Industries" series published in Scientific American in 1882 and provides lots of detailed information on how these leather tanneries operated in the 19th century. Also included is a separate ariticle tilted Our Leather Industry. Other content includes full column article on the second page about the advantages of Gas Engines over Steam Engines which mentions the Otto Engine, Dowson Gas and presentation on the subject made by a Professor Aryton. . Scientific American was a leading science and technology publication of the 19th century which is still in print today. Each issue is a large over sized format richly illustrated with numerous engravings. These issues are original antiques published well over 100 years ago. There will typically be some toning of the paper from age as well as a few small nicks or chips on the edges but these issues are all 100% complete, solidly intact and in good to very good shape overall.
