This is not a dictaphone player. The original dictation machines used cylinders and this was used to precisionly allow you to shave off the top layer. Excellent workmanship. Similar to a lathe. This uses two o-ring style belts for the shaver motor and a vacuum pump. They are original, but tend to slip. They can be easily replaced with modern o-rings. The only thing not original is the power cord. Designed to run on either 120 volts AC or 240 Volts AC. More information from someone about Safety with these: "It is dangerous to shave anything other than dictation cylinders on this. NO MUSIC cylinders. It rotates at a very high speed. The heavy Ediphone dictation cylinders are reinforced on the inside with a fabric mesh to hold the cylinder together under the high centrifugal forces of the shaver. Standard cylinder blanks intended for home recording can easily fly apart on this high-speed shaver. Those were meant to be shaved by normal speed shavers fitted onto Phonographs intended for home use." Thanks for looking !!!
