The “Toledo” Punching and Shearing Presses, Section 4-A, Catalogue No. 12, 1920. Published by the Toledo Machine & Tool Co., Toledo, Ohio. 7 x 9 paperback. 30 pages. This original catalog is in fair condition. The front and back covers are completely detached but present. The pages are soiled but legible. Pages 13 and 14 have been torn out and are missing. Some pages have greasy fingerprints mostly along the page edges. There is some pencil notations on some of the pages, especially on the front title page. The Toledo Machine and Tool Company was founded in 1888 and specialized in the production of heavy metal forming equipment -- presses, shears, and formers for the shaping of sheet iron. In 1897, the company expanded its business overseas, with a contract to supply British bicycle firms with presses. In 1899 Toledo Machine and Tool introduced a special press for the making of gas stoves, and by 1900 had branched out into the making of planers, milling machines, boring mills and cranes. By 1911, the company recognized the emerging potential of the nascent automobile industry and had developed special presses for manufacture auto body panels and other parts. Keeping up with technological innovations and the growing and changing nature of the industry, the company continued to grow until it became one of the largest manufacturing and industrial concerns in Toledo.
