For sale is a 1943 vintage Diehl Transmitter AC Synchronous Motor, Model C78248.   It was left behind in my late father's electronics inventory/ collection.   Dad was an active and avid HAM radio operator for 73 years, was an Army Signal Corps Radio School instructor during WWII, and he loved his radios!!   It was his wish that I find good homes for his "treasures," but unfortunately, I don't know just what all of his treasures are, nor do I know how to test them, so I am selling them "as-is, as-found." Here is some information that my husband found about this motor: MANUFACTURER:  Diehl Manufacturing Company, Elizabethport, NJ RATING:  115 AC Volts at 60 Cycles per second CONNECTIONS:  Desirable 5-wire configuration labeled: X, 1, 2, 3, 4, Y TERMINALS:  Terminal screws and lockwashers included SHAFT DIAMTER:  Appears to be 1/4-inch, with mounted brass gear and iron plate BRASS GEAR:  A nominally 2-1/4-inch diameter, 72 tooth, brass gear is mounted to the motor shaft and secured by a roll pin.  A circular iron plate is secured to the motor side of the brass gear ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  Other sellers have observed that the Model C78248 was originally used as an indicator for propeller pitch control in World War II air craft.  Others have suggested that the Model C78248 was used on Ham Radio synchronous transmitters,  I can not confirm or deny either of these statements.  I am aware that Diehl Manufacturing Company did have patents for "phonograph driving devices" circa 1933.  Seller makes no representation with regard to the intended use of this product.  Application is the exclusive responsibility of the buyer. (I do have a wonderfully helpful eBay contact who graciously helps me with "mystery" items from time to time.  He suggests that it is an "antenna positioning motor.   It would be mounted to the pole and move the antenna proper around in a horizontal axis (hence, X and Y on the motor).   The other terminals might be for direction:  rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise, how fast, etc.  Synchronous means that it rotates at a pre-determined speed, determined by the line frequency (in this case 60 HZ)."    And, Dad did bring back lots of radio equipment surplus after WWII, so it could be military.   At any rate, look at all the possibilities!!!) CONDITION:  Rotor spins freely.  Used and untested. DIMENSIONS:  Nominal 3-3/8 inch diameter by 5-1/2 inch nominal length I hope you can think of some wonderful use for this motor in your vintage electronics restoration projects!! Thanks for looking!!
