Awesome book of typefaces from the 1980s If you are an artist, you will appreciate this book.  Even so, I am not an artist, and I love it.  It would be on my coffee table, except that my coffee table is already overburdened, as any neatnik would be happy to tell you.   This is a fabulous book of typefaces from the 80s.  From the days when publishing wasn't routinely done at a computer choosing from a small list of of typefaces.   Typography was an art.  Spacing was an art.   Have you ever picked up a really old book in which the typeface was listed in the front?  Well, this book shows some of those faces, but the type shown in it wasn't set by hand as it was then.   We used this book in the 1980s before "desktop publishing," choosing the typeface, sending our copy to the typesetter, proofreading the copy when it was returned to us.   I love to just look at the faces.  Really cool.  Turn the pages and see how different they are.   How about Benguiat?  ----Cheltenham, Zapf, Bodoni, Edelweiss, Lubalin.   Times and Helvetica have been done to death.   And look at license plates!  In some states, the D and O are indistinguishable on a dim day. One typographer said, as quoted in this book: Typography's function is to convey a visual message quickly and easily.  The typographer's aim should be to aid easy legibility.  He can do this by choosing the most readable typeface for a given problem, the best line length and the best leading.  Fashion is not an important consideration.  He shouldn't choose a less legible face because it is popular at the moment.  Word and letter-spacing different from the original design are suspect and should be avoided if possible.  Letterforms in an alphabet were designed to fit together harmoniously and to flow from one letter to the next..........  N&F was a typesetting company in Illinois---Mount Prospect, as I remember. This large notebook is 11 1/2  by  11  by  2 3/4 inches.  The pages are glossy and thick.   The book is heavy, so I will ship by media mail unless you instruct differently.    o o o I have begun to sell on eBay again after about 10 years.  I stopped because of physical problems and other circumstances, but now I am again slowly beginning to sell my own,  my mother's and grandmother's things, and estate things I bought at auctions over the years.  I tend to stop and start, but I plan to continue for some years.  I pack things very carefully and try to keep the weight down to lower shipping costs.  I use First Class if  possible, and if it costs less than Priority, and since our personal mail and mail from the Federal Government are First Class, I think that is pretty safe.   Of course, I can ship by whatever means you request.   Just let me know before you pay, and I will change the shipping cost.    I re-use and recycle packing materials and therefore do not charge for them.  Thanks for looking at my things.  I really appreciate it.  And have fun with eBay!  If you have questions, let me know.  I DO NOT HAVE A SMARTPHONE.  I use only my computer for email, so my replies will not be instantaneous.   But I try to check my email more than once a day.  Thanks again.
