The Redline is designed to show the maximum safe acetylene pressure. at 15lbs Acetylene becomes unstable, at 30lbs its explosive without warning. A good rule of thumb is you don't need more than 2 times your torch tip size if you are running acetylene for cutting. If you are oxygen / acetylene welding , use the same amount of acetylene pressure as the size tip you are using to weld with (example #1 1lb, #2 2lbs etc. the question always comes up what if you are welding with a 0 or 00 Welding tip. set your acetylene pressure to as close to 1/2 lb as you can and you will be good to go. There is probably more money spent on wasted gasses than what there is on actual gasses used for both cutting and welding. There are charts available for all the major torch manufacturers and they are spot on as far as getting a quality cut, and minimizing your consumption.
