In the 60's and 70's, Tektronix was known for the superb precision and high-frequency circuit design. To learn about circuit design, students of engineering would study the designs coming out of Tektronix for clues about how to achieve such remarkable performance. I recall using a Tektronics 7904 1GHz analog 'scope in the 80's and just being astonished by the clarity and precision of the displays. The Tektronix engineers wrote a series of texts about the problem of measurement in general, and how to design the circuits to reveal the secrets of the domains being measures.
