This is a brand new, factory fresh, 3/8" forstner type drill bit for cutting smooth bottom round holes in wood. These bits are an incredible value complete with solid high carbon steel alloy construction and sturdy reinforced shafts tapered to a 3/8" shank at the end for use on 3/8" or 1/2" drill chucks. Perfect for pocket hole drilling and precision drill press mortising for cabinet hinges. These smaller bits can also be used to create neat, clean, flat bottomed countersink holes for screws and clear/flush sinking machine nuts in wood applications -hardened, machine ground cutting edges are sharp out of the box, and extremely easy to hand sharpen, and because forstner bits remove and clear material from beneath (perpendicular to) the cutting motion, unlike router bits which clear material from in front of (in parallel with) the motion of the cutting surface and leave a precise edge detail, a sharpened bit will cut just as precisely as a new bit for as long as you can keep from misplacing it. There's plenty of stock on these to make each one the last of that size you should ever need to purchase, as long as you have a file handy every once and again. -Precision balanced to insure they'll seat true in your drill press and hold precisely to their diameter through clearing. As always, the items I sell are items that I use, and that I find to be of particular value. These forstner bits from Warrior are no exception! They are the only bits i use, (though I have several in sizes I don't yet carry for sale) and they stand up to the highest priced name brand equivalents with absolutely no downside. I can't overstate the ease with which they accept a fresh cutting edge from a hand file in seconds. If intended for occasional use, or for use with pine alone, they should pretty much last forever without requiring sharpening. If you beat your bits in hardwood and know you'll dull them frequently, then you're probably used to sharpening them now and again, and know already how long a good bit can last, but there is no reason to spend 5x more for the same quality product... These are inexpensive and long lasting enough out of the box to be treated as disposables for those folks who never bother sharpening edges, but also hard enough and come with enough stock to take a lifetime of new edges.
