3M ID Handheld 1989 Verifier Security Laminate. Criminals decide whether to test your security system by balancing the reward of success against the risk of being caught.... TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS A covert security feature consists of a retroreflective background comprising a standard or custom pattern. As covert security features, the retroreflective background and pattern are transparent under ambient lighting conditions. But, when viewed under a focused light source perpendicular to the laminate's surface, a highly retroreflective pattern becomes visible that totally Obscures the data contained below its surface. Any surface disruption to the laminate can signal tampering attempts. A document's integrity can be immediately verified without the need for extensive laboratory or forensic investigation. - Unaligned retroreflective patterns can indicate an attempted alteration. - Visible data added to the surface of the laminate is easy to detect because the retroreflective pattern is blocked when verified. - Dark spots or washed out retroreflective patterns can be indicative of attempts to tamper with the document using solvent. - Missing retroreflective patterns are an immediate visual indicator that simulation attempts might have been made to the document by substituting conventional laminates or over-laminating the surface of the Confirm laminate in an attempt to disguise changes or additions.
