We decided to make them after many unsuccessful attempts to buy quality mirrors from China. Those made of Gold coated glass (you can see in the corner of first picture) are just disastrous! So called K9 mirrors do not last long and thermally unstable. You can see what actually happened to the mirror of the 40W laser engraver which we bought on Ebay. We tried Nickel, Nickel-Copper alloys and Molybdenum. Some of the Nickel-Copper alloys gave very good results as Mirrors but they have soft surface and easy to scratch during cleaning. Mo (Molybdenum) is more expensive material but much more scratch resistant. So after number of trials and we fond Mo as to be one of the most suitable for this task. Si mirrors gold plated are even better then Mo ones but plating itself adding cost and gold to be plated is not free at all. So for MOST demanding applications we decided to make Si gold plated mirrors. These are far better then Made in China ones! We made very limited number of those so buy while they are available!
