It is not suitable for transformers, only inductors. It has a distributed air gap inside the core, and thus stores energy (ideal transformer must not store energy). It is suitable for high power filters and chokes, carrying large ripple currents and/or large DC current components, which would otherwise saturate a ferrite core. It is not suitable for transformers in the forward transfer mode, only inductors. OK for FLYBACK transformer ( which is not a real x-former, but a coupled inductor).
