For more information visit here: http://www.urgomedical.com/products/algoplaque/ Properties In contact with the wound, hydrocolloids from Algoplaque® absorb progressively the exudate, form a moist gel and create the condition that favour the healing process regarding moisture, temperature and pH. This non-adherent gel avoids that the wound is damaged when the dressing is removed. Its great conformability and adhesiveness make it ideal for covering wounds in awkward areas (ulcers in the trochanter region or heel region), preventing loosening due to friction or in case of incontinence. Algoplaque® is transparent allowing the wound and the gel to be continuously monitored. Algoplaque® dressings are permeable to air, waterproof and bacteriaproof. These properties allow baths or showers, protect the wound from external contaminants, and enable gas exchanges, which favour the draining of exudate. Algoplaque® does not need any secondary dressing. Composition High-protection, semi-permeable, sterile hydrocolloid dressing. The inner layer is composed of hydrocolloid particles (carboxymethylcellulose) incorporated in an elastomer mesh. The outer layer of Algoplaque® is a polyurethane backing. Indications Algoplaque® dressings are indicated for the local treatment of chronic wounds with healthy surrounding skin (leg ulcers and pressure ulcers) at the granulation stage. Algoplaque® Sacrum and Border are indicated for pressure sores. Contraindications Algoplaque® dressings are contraindicated in case of infection. METHOD OF USE Cleanse the wound with saline solution. Dry carefully the surrounding skin using a sterile compress. If an antiseptic is first used, rinse the wound thoroughly with saline solution before applying Algoplaque ®. Choose the appropriate size of Algoplaque® so as to leave at least 3 cm of the dressing covering healthy skin around the wound. Remove the protective films and apply Algoplaque® onto the wound, making sure not to touch the adhesive part with the fingers. For Algoplaque® Sacrum, apply the dressing placing the point downwards, trying to flatten out the fold in order to provide immediate improved adhesiveness and to ensure total protection in case of incontinence. Smooth down the dressing gently over the wound and more firmly around the edge covering the healthy skin. On a clean wound, Algoplaque® will be changed every 3 to 4 days on average depending on the amount of exudate, then gradually replaced by Algoplaque® Thin (changed every 4 to 6 days) at the epithelialisation stage. Algoplaque® dressings should be removed tangentially to the wound . PRECAUTIONS In case of highly exuding wounds, the outflow of gelatinous substance around the dressing means that it should be changed. When removing the dressing, the wound may be covered with a gelatinous coating which will be removed easily simply by cleaning. In case of infection, use of Algoplaque® should be discontinued.
