Four 3-drawer file cabinets and a matching supply cupboard 42" high by 28.5" deep. The file cabinets are each about 14" wide and the supply cupboard is 17" wide. If used as an ensemble, wall space required is 74" to 75". Each piece of this ensemble can be used separately or together. They are metal with a faux wood finish. Pulls, knobs and top edging are of brass. The tops are inlaid with tan battleship linoleum. All drawers are fully functional with a hardware system of exceptional quality not found in today's products. The bottoms are one piece, same as the backs (or fronts if you go with the room-divider idea, see photo) making the loaded cabinets easy to move around, especially on carpet. The patina of use since the 1950s is unavoidable, but not unsightly.  File cabinets are 3-drawer standard width, but long enough to accommodate legal files if placed lengthwise. The supply cupboard is 17" wide and does not have to be placed in the middle as shown. Also included is a side panel to face the exposed end. It can be used on the right or left side. Since 1994, these cabinets have been in our home-office spare bedroom, becoming emptier and emptier as the years have closed in on retirement. This file-cabinet ensemble was first used during the '50s or '60s in an Orland, CA insurance office. During the '80s and '90s the cabinets were used as a space divider forming a reception area in a surveyor's office at the same address. The surveyor business placed area topographical maps covered with a sheet of lucite or glass on the top of the grouped cabinets. The resulting work surface was very effective to a visitor since it was so relevant to the mission of a surveyor, and a perfect standing height for conversation or consulting.
