If the drill bits you are using are too short, the anchors will not hold properly, here's why...as you drill, concrete dust accumulates in the hole. If your drill bit is too short, you will not be able to properly seat the Tapcon Anchor as it will not have enough bearing surface to hold onto and it may fail. For example, if you are using a 3-1/4" or 3-3/4" or 4" Long Tapcon to mount 2 x 4's to concrete, according to the manufacturer, your drill bit must be at least 5-1/2" Long (to allow for the concrete dust in the hole). That's the long and short of it and why the 6.5" long drills in this listing will work for 1/4" Tapcon Anchors up to 4" in length.
