Following information was taken here: http://www.urgomedical.com/products/optiskin/ Product Description Long-lasting adhesive dressing for all body areas: Absorbent Protects against external contamination risk Hypoallergenic Painless on removal, enabling repeat applications being atraumatic to the skin. Transparent, allows monitoring of the saturation level of the pad. Gentle on sensitive skin. Waterproof Composition The dressing is composed of a thin polyurethane film coated with an acrylic adhesive mass, with a low adherent non-woven pad. The dressing is covered with a transparent film. The adhesive mass is protected by two application papers. Indications For application to: All types of superficial wounds (sutured wounds, dermabrasions) Or devices (probes, drains, etc) Waterproof, Optiskin is particulary suitable for balneotherapy, or for quick resumption of activity following surgery. Contraindications None reported. Instructions for use Before treatment: Wash hands thoroughly Skin preparation: If necessary, remove hair using a surgical shaver to ensure good adhesion of the dressing Stop any flow of blood from the wound Disinfect the wound and wound area thoroughly Rinse and dry carefully. Dressing application: 1. Grip the protective paper backing between the thumb and index finger and carefully release the adhesive surface of the dressing by pulling outwards on each side. 2. Apply, centring the dressing over the wound to be protected or the device to be held in place, before completely removing the protective paper backing. 3. Apply light pressure over the entire surface to ensure adhesiveness. 4. Remove the clear protective film, starting from the centre. 5. Smooth down the dressing from the middle to the edges. Dressing removal: Remove the film by successively stretching the opposite edges of the dressing, pulling one edge at a time, holding the rest of the dressing with the other hand. This method makes it easier to gently remove the dressing, without pain, and limits the risk of skin irritation linked to frequent dressing changes. Precautions for use The dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days. Check that the individual sterile packaging is intact before use Avoid pulling tight on application. Do not use on infected wounds, puncture sites, bleeding or highly exuding wounds. Check the wound and surrounding skin regularly to detect any local signs of infection (pain, redness, oedema, odour or unusual discharge) Do not use for covering central venous catheters.
