Orange self-indicating silica gel (500 grams) Product: The material for sale is orange self-indicating silica gel. Its colour changes from orange to green as it gradually becomes saturated with water. Although the product is referred to as a "gel", it is in fact entirely solid. It comprises irregular granules that have an enormous surface area for adsorbing moisture - the surface area quoted in the specification is 700 - 800 m2/g. Instructions to use: Pour the required amount of silica gel in a dish or a container capable of being sealed. Place the item that requires drying in the silica gel container (e.g. flowers, moisture-sensitive materials or chemicals, a cell phone that was accidentally dropped in water etc) and seal the container. You can place these items directly on the silica or by suspending them over the silica. Lifetime: As long as the silica is not damaged by treating it accidentally with a corrosive chemical, its lifetime is indefinite. When the silica gel is saturated, recharge it by baking it for several hours at 100 degrees C. This will drive off the water and turn the silica from green to orange. Do not place the product in a plastic container or heat-sensitive container whilst you are recharging it - use containers that are designed to withstand the heat!
