Samples with a high pH and solvent cocktails adversely affect polypropylene which can cause fatigue or tube failure. Centrifuge samples containing these chemicals as quickly as possible. 5. Do not use high pH solvents or chemicals in polypropylene tubes. Proper closure 1. Snap the lid closed with your thumb. Using forefingers and thumb could case the tube to slip out your grasp, or the conical end of the tube may be puncture glove. 2. Tubes are properly closed when you hear the "click". 3. Maximum centrifuging speed is 15,000 RPM or 16,000 x G's. Freezing Tubes 1. Tubes can be stored to -80 deg. C (-112 deg. F). Thaw frozen tubes slowly to room temperature before centrifuging. 2. Do not spin tubes in sub-zero temperatures. Heating Tubes 1. Autoclave tubes at 15 PSI for 15 minutes at 121 deg. C (252 deg. F). Place tubes, with lids open, in a glass beaker and cover with aluminum foil to autoclave. Cool tubes to room temperature before centifuging. 2. Boil filled tubes no longer than 30 minutes. Opening Tubes 1. A Micro Tube Tool can be used to open tubes. It will minimize finger soreness, fatigue and broken nails.
