I hatch these same eggs at least once a month to sell chicks; I know these eggs are fertile. If an egg does not develop it may appear as infertile to the layman. PT Certified Clean. 8 Blue Birchen Marans Fertile Hatching Eggs is what you are buying. My flock originated from 14 Blue Birchen Marans purchased directly from Greenfire Farms (see pictures). You will receive 6 eggs plus 2 extra in case of breakage and\or to improve hatch rate. Eggs will weigh 2 ounces or more when shipped. Egg weight is extremely important if you want early maturing, large & fertile hens that lay large to extra large eggs. Ask your seller what their eggs weigh. It will take a year or more to recover from a flock of small hens. Most small hens will never lay good size eggs. I have 18 hens and 3 roosters in this pen. I replace my hens before they are 2.5 years old. Young hens have superior fertility. Young hens & good hen to rooster ratio = excellent fertility and hatch rate. Other variables are uncontrollable. Some chicks offered by individuals, feed stores and hatcheries originated from extremely small hatching eggs. Which will result in small hens that will never lay good size eggs. Purchase hatching eggs from a reputable seller that sells good size hatching eggs. Always hatch and raise ALL your flock members. This will ensure proper care and development from day one. As a result of the blue gene you can expect to hatch roughly 50% blue or blue birchen, 25% splash & 25% black or black birchen chicks. No guarantees of the specific colors that will hatch. Mother Nature has a mind of her own. I breed for the following traits, in no particular order: 1. Fully feathered legs. 2. Confirmation - breed standard. 3. Dark brown eggs. 4. No copper feathering. I have culled out all birds with copper or gold feathering, but occasionally a few copper feathers come through. True Blue Birchen Marans will be absent of copper or gold feathering. Pullets will start laying in approximately 7 months. Hens will lay hatching eggs in approximately 10 months. Mature hens will weigh 4 - 6 pounds. Roosters will weigh 7 - 10 pounds. Black x Black = 100% Black chicks Black x Blue = 50% Black and 50% Blue chicks Blue x Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black and 25% Splash chicks Black x Splash = 100% Blue chicks Blue x Splash = 50% Blue and 50% Splash chicks Splash x Splash = 100% Splash chicks These crosses work if the hen is the noted color or the rooster. percell0 had this to say on 11-22-19: "Received 8 eggs 8 hatched. I will ship you fertile fresh eggs in a timely manner but my responsibility ends there. Do not hold me responsible for shipping/shippers problems. USPS includes $50 of insurance and FedEx includes $100 worth of insurance with your shipment so please do not ask me to refund you for damages or replace delayed or lost eggs. I take the responsibility of selling you eggs VERY seriously. I will handle your eggs with utmost care. I hand carry egg orders to the local shipping office each afternoon. I would never sell an egg that I would not incubate myself. Your eggs will be 1-3 days old when shipped. My eggs are stored in a dedicated refrigerator set at 55-60 degrees with a maintained humidity of 70 percent. Texas A&M has a publication with these recommended settings for hatching egg storage. This will largely increase hatch rates. I turn my stored eggs by hand at least twice daily.
