Olandsk Dwarfs are perfect for the space-constrained chicken enthusiast who seeks the extreme in rarity, beauty, and hardiness. These friendly birds are ideally suited for the backyard garden. Belying the flighty reputation of most bantam breeds, Dwarfs are relatively calm and quiet and can do well in a free-range environment.  They hail for Olands, the second largest island in Sweden; a strip of land about 85 miles long and 10 miles wide, anchored near the mainland along the southeast coast. Here, centuries ago, birds simply known as British garden hens were brought to the island, and from these birds, the Olandsk Dwarf emerged as a distinct breed.  Dwarfs are true bantams as they have no larger counterpart. They are cold-hardy and lay a large amount of smallish, white eggs. Their feathers are a wild, splattered canvas drawing from a bouquet of red, black, white, and gray. The roosters have a metallic copper and gold sheen in their hackle feathers that creates a dramatic effect. Like most landraces, there is considerable variation within the breed.  They can have either yellow or white feet and in the US they only have straight combs. Price includes shipping.  Eggs are wrapped individually and shipped 'fat end up' to help keep the air cell stable during transit.  Eggs can be shipped Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and will be processed in the order they were received.    Specific ship date requests should be placed in your order notes and will be honored as the hens allow.  If there is a day that you DO NOT want your eggs shipped, please include that information in the order notes as well.   We request all hatching eggs be picked up at your local post office to reduce shipping trauma.  Notify us if you do not want your eggs addressed in this manner.  All eggs are shipped USPS Priority Mail and typically arrive 2 to 3 days after shipping.   We ship the freshest eggs possible and package in a manner that will limit the chance of breakage or damage.  We do not guarantee hatch rates due to factors that are out of our control such as rough handling, incubator error, etc.
