The diode that is used in this laser module is brand new, and was not extracted from a DVD burner sled, as is visible by its long, uncut pins. It is rated by the manufacturer for 150mW CW and 400mW pulse, however it can be driven to provide very close to 400mW continuously (an additional heatsink may be required for prolonged operation of over 20 seconds at 500 milliamps+). This diode is identical to the LPC-815 diode that is frequently extracted by laser hobbyists from DVD-RW drives. It can be driven to a maximum current of 550 milliamps at the risk of diode life being shortened. As an example of the ability of this diode, the images above show the laser module (w/ proper power supply) running a modest 250 milliamps with more than enough power to impress. This diode is a standard 5.6mm TO-18 package that has been pressed to the point of recession in an Aixiz module. The only required components for proper operation will be a laser driver and a battery. Also, this module features a threaded lens to allow for focal point adjustment. Through the manual adjustment of the lens, a few different effects can be attained. The first effect is "flash light", with the lens completely screwed in, next is beam with the lens at small distance from the diode, and finally burning with the focal spot being the highest concentration of laser power. Recommended parameters(and warnings) for use..... Use ElectroStaticDischarge(ESD) protection at all times when handling these and any other laser modules. Don't power up module unless a proper driving circuit or otherwise stable power source is used. Don't point at people, ANY vehicles, animals, satellites(spy or not), any buildings, or yourself. THIS LASER WILL BLIND YOU PERMANENTLY IF YOU LOOK INTO THE BEAM....SO DON'T! Also, please use laser safety goggles, a glancing reflection will do damage to the eye. Maximum voltage: 4 volts Maximum current: 550 milliamps Threshold current: ~85 milliamps Optimum current/voltage(for decent diode lifetime): 3.1 volts @ 400 milliamps The sale is for one ML101U29 laser diode pressed in an Aixiz module with leads soldered.
