Up for auction is a 9" South Bend metal lathe that is in great condition but needs a new motor. The one on it is too low of a horsepower (it's 1/8 hp) and is nearly burned out. It can't turn the lathe and starts smoking. A 1/2 hp motor is recommended but I don't have one for it. Mechanically the lathe is in super nice condition, the screw feeds work smoothly and the powerfeed works properly in both directions. The bed is in great condition also and the tailstock screw is smooth also. It has a 9" swing and about 18" between centers. There is a set of gears included so you can cut threads and power the leadscrew for automatic feed. I don't know if all the gears are here for every thread combination, I've never cut threads before, but a threading chart is riveted on the gear cover. The headstock bearings spin smoothly and there is no play in the spindle. This lathe is a little more robust than the common Atlas brand lathe and uses cast iron handwheels and gears instead of the "low quality" zinc alloy that Atlas uses. There are no broken or missing teeth in any of the gears with this lathe (neither the headstock's gears nor the powerfeed/threading gears). The work bench the lathe is mounted on is included also if you want it. It has cast iron caster wheels for easy mobility. The lathe itself weight about 225 pounds and about 3-1/2 feet long (including the gear cover). It can fit in the trunk of a car when taken off the bench. Delivery: I may be willing to deliver this item if you pay (in advance) $1.50 per loaded mile. This means if you live 100 miles away the cost will be $150.00 ($1.50 x 100 = $150.00). The mileage distance is measured online by "Yahoo Maps" or "Mapquest" from my location (New Rochelle, NY 10801) to your's.
