From the Label: Autozeroing Infrared Temperature Scanner, Direct Temperature Differences from 0 degree C to 100 degrees C for Electrical Equipment Inspectors Infrared non-contact difference temperature sensor in excellent condition. Used by electricians, electrical and eletronics technicians, safety inspectors, etc. Point the sensor lens at a reference object (such as a known good circuit breaker under normal load), then press and hold the top red button. Keep the button down and move the sensor to other local objects (such as a suspect circuit breaker) to see if there is a higher temperature on the second object compared to the reference object. Single hand operation. The LED scale has 2 degree C increments from 0 to 20C differential, then has 4 more LEDs which indicate 20 degree C increments from 20C to 100C. In the photos I have pointed the lens at an apple and used that as a reference surface temp, then pointed the reader at my coffee cup with hot water in it. There is a 40 degree C differential displayed. These units are used to determine operating conditions and potentially failing devices in power circuits. However there is nothing stopping a thoughtful person from using it as a very quick monitoring device for things like internal circuit board and CPU hot spot locator, temperatures of batchs of product being heated, surface temps for CFL ballasts, AC/DC motors, Air Conditioning equipment, etc. Because the lower range has 2 degree C increments, safety inspectors can use this to find subtle hot spots in floors, walls and ceilings.
