American Type Founders printers' type specimen cards, in original dark wood case with label, circa 1950/1. A classic mid-century graphic arts item. Included are 2 index cards, the one with a red notice, dated 1951, lists additional examples of a few types (19 a,b,c,d, etc.) This set includes: cards 1-87, all add-ons matching the index, a "Whitehall" type card numbered 88, and, in blue, a series of 8 "Egmont" type cards issued by Amsterdam Continental Types & Graphic Equipment, Inc. (printed in the Netherlands) with the ATF name printed over. Most cards are two-sided, presenting different point sizes available for purchase. They show caps, lower cases, italics, The box, which is a little scuffed, is dovetailed with hinges and measures approx. 11 1/2 by 8 1/4 inches, just larger than the cards. About fine, cards are mostly clean, though we noticed the occasional pencil mark and, on one, a red ink stain.
