Ameco VFO-621 Variable Frequency Oscillator  (c. 1970)-- The Ameco VFO-621 is a late sixties vintage Variable Frequency Oscillator designed to be used with the Ameco TX-62 Transmitter, or any other 50, 144 or 220MHz transmitter that is designed to operate with 8, 12 or 24-26MHz crystals.  The output cable is terminated with an FT-243 dummy plug, which may be converted as necessary (RCA, etc.) to fit other transmitters. The Ameco VFO-621 circuit consists of a solid state variable oscillator operating at 12 to 13 Mc. The oscillator signal is fed into a pentode buffer amplifier, a triode frequency doubler and an output amplifier working straight through. The two amplifiers and the doubler provide excellent isolation of the oscillator from the transmitter, which produces improved stability and keying, never previously available in a VHF - VFO. The dial scale is calibrated for 50-52, 144- 148 and 220-225 Mc. The scales are long, open and easy to read. For mobile operation, terminals are provided for external DC supplies.  It can be operated from the AC mains with the internal zener-regulated power supply, or the operating voltages may be derived from the Ameco TX-62, or similar vintage transmitters (6 or 12 V filament and 100-150 Vdc B+).  The use of two solid state oscillators yields a quick and stabile warm up.  Two 6KZ8 tubes provide the Buffer/Mixer and Amplifier functions.  Manual is missing, but may be downloaded from the net. Several light scratches and wear marks on the black housing, but generally the unit is in very good to excellent condition.  The power cord is stiffening slightly, but still flexible and no chips or cracks.  Useable for ham radio, and for vintage radio collectors.
