The clamp has two jaws that fit around a 1.2" (31 mm) conductor to convert a high-current signal to a low-level millivolt signal so it can be read by a testing device. The zero adjust knob allows the operator to compensate for changes in output voltage due to environmental conditions. The clamp attaches to a compatible testing device, such as a digital multimeter, with a 59" (1.5 m) lead. A finger guard on the body of the meter helps protect fingers from shock. The clamp operates on one 9-volt battery (included). It weighs 0.7 pounds (320 g) and measures 8.66 x 2.2 x 1.2 inches (220 x 55 x 30 mm, H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; and D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back).
