You are bidding on a very nice Crocker and Wheeler 1/6hp Bipolar electric motor. The tag says it runs at 1600rpm and is 500 volts. Judging by the nameplate and my limited research I would guess this motor was built around 1892. It was built by Crocker and Wheeler in Ampere, NJ and has an 1891 patent date. The motor is in almost unbelievable condition for being almost 125 years old! It was just found within the last month, in an old basement near Chicago. I am not an expert on electric motors, especially not one this old. I didn't want to hurt anything by trying to make it run, especially being what the voltage says. The armature spins nice and freely, with no drag whatsoever. The adjuster lever works just as it should. This motor hasn't seen the elements in it's entire life, you can easily tell that by all the original paint, patina and perfect wires! The only thing I did to it, is very, very lightly sand the top of the nameplate so you can read it easier. The windings look to be in perfect shape on the coils, not one spec of bare wire, or loose wire, everything looks nice and tight and in perfect shape. By my very limited research I believe this motor could have been originally ordered as a fan, or just a plain motor like this one. It currently has a belt pulley on it, which I can't guarantee is or is not original. Please look at the pictures and decide for yourself, I will be very happy to answer any questions you have to the best of my ability. This is a NO RESERVE auction, starting at one penny, once it sells it sells. This will be shipped USPS or UPS, whatever the buyer prefers. Shipping will be $100, which includes insurance anywhere in the lower 48 UNITED STATES. I will also ship this motor anywhere in the world, but shipping will be based on your location after the auction ends. Thanks for looking, and happy bidding!
